L1 Use in the Language Classroom

This workshop tackles head on current debate about the status and appropriateness of L1 use in foreign language learning and teaching. Grounded in current research and practice, we explore how a refined understanding of L1, L2, and their relationship can promote language learning and the teaching of complex and difficult language features. In particular, participants will enhance their understanding and implementation of the "Comparisons" goal area of the ACTFL Standards. Presenter: Kevin McManus (Penn State)
