Indiana University's Center for Languages of the Central Asian Regions (CeLCAR) is one of sixteen Title VI Language Resource Centers in the United States and the only one dedicated to the critical languages of Central Asia and surrounding countries. CeLCAR is dedicated to promoting the teaching and learning of the languages and cultures of Central Asia through the development of language learning materials (online courses, web and mobile applications, textbooks, multimedia resources), teacher training, and intensive language summer courses.

CALPER University Park, PA

CALPER’s multi-module series for intermediate and advanced learners of Korean focuses on helping students master discourse features of Korean that are essential in developing higher levels of proficiency. Guided exercises, awareness-raising activities, and small projects have been created on the basis of authentic Korean texts and address the National Standards for Korean. Teacher have access to 20 successful program-enhancing units on a range of themes.

COERLL Austin, TX

COERLL's mission is to produce and disseminate Open Educational Resources (OER) for the Internet public (e.g., online language courses, reference grammars, assessment tools, corpora, etc.). The term OER refers to any educational material offered freely for anyone to use, typically involving some permission to re-mix, improve, and redistribute. Thus, COERLL seeks to promote a culture of collaboration that lies at the heart of the Open Education movement. In addition, COERLL aims to reframe foreign language education in terms of bilingualism and/or multilingualism. As such, all COERLL resources strive to represent more accurately language development and performance along dialectal and proficiency continua.

Tadriis Arabic Teaching Methods	Web
Description The Tadriis site is a multimedia online Arabic teacher training intended for Arabic teachers in the U.S. and abroad. It covers the latest in K-16 Arabic language pedagogy, including learner centered classrooms, learning strategies, learning outcomes, learning skills, and task-based and project-based instruction. With Tadriis, users can access video samples of teacher-student interactions in Arabic classrooms, pedagogical demonstrations and teaching tips, samples of L2 Arabic language production, a glossary of key teaching terms, and suggestions for further reading. The entire site is presented in Arabic and available as a free online Open Educational Resource. Resource Link
Umbundu Brohcure	Print
Description The Umbundu language was formed from different groups of people who slowly moved from the North and formed the local/regional groups there today, and have formed political units. They have developed a sophisticated agriculture, which includes the breeding of small animals and cows. In the 16th century they took advantage of the Portuguese communities being established and formed trading routes/ agreements. With each of the routes (caravans), each group became even more independent than they had been. They appointed professional leaders and diviners. The trade thrived on slavery. When slavery decreased around 1904, so did the trade, and finally ended in 1910. This also had somewhat to do with the way trade was conducted. Since the major railway was also built in 1904, the caravans began to die out which meant that the leaders and diviners were not needed anymore. Resource Link

Sep 2022 12 - 14 Hawaii	2022 Pragmatics & Language Learning Conference The National Foreign Language Resource Center at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and the Center for Applied Second Language Studies at the University of Oregon are pleased to announce the 2022 Pragmatics and Language Learning Conference (PLL 2022) which will take place online on September 12-14, 2022. The conference main theme will be Teaching and Learning Interactional Pragmatics in a Digital World, but we welcome a broad range of topics in pragmatics, discourse, interaction, and sociolinguistics in their relation to second and foreign language learning, education, and use, approached from a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives. We hope this conference brings together scholars and educators from all around the world who are interested in discussing both established and innovative approaches to teaching and learning pragmatics to strengthen our understanding of principles and practices in PLL and push the field to new and exciting directions in research and practice. Plenary talks will be live and we have tried to schedule them so that a large part of our audience can access at least half of them. The rest of the presentations will be simulive (pre-recorded 20 minute presentation with live interaction by the presenters) or poster sessions (5-7 minute-pre-recorded presentation within Zoom breakout rooms for interaction).
